M&S Eye 32 Scottish Locations for a New Food Store Including 10 in Greater Glasgow
- On Tuesday, Marks & Spencer unveiled a list of 500 potential locations for new and renewed M&S Food stores as it aims to double the size of its food business.
- Alex Freudmann, Managing Director of M&S Food, said expanding follows strong recent store performance and supports plans to modernise 180 full-line stores and 420 food-focused outlets.
- In Scotland, the plan targets 32 locations, including 10 in Greater Glasgow, with more than twenty stores opening or renewing before the end of the financial year, creating around 800 jobs.
- The cyber attack caused online sales down 42.9%, and a £324 million loss in sales, affecting profits which fell 55.4% to 184.1 million for the six months ending September 27.
- More than half of the estate is due to be in the renewal format by April 2028, with the Selby Food store opened last year delivering above-average food market share growth.
