Belarus announced on Tuesday a plan to send underperforming workers to guard the country's southern border near Ukraine during the 2026 harvest season. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that even officials who are not fulfilling their duties should be sent to the army.
The Belarusian authorities are increasing pressure on society. Security forces are declaring criminal liability for criticism on social media, and Lukashenko is proposing to send agricultural workers deemed "negligent" to military training.
