Lufthansa introduces discounted fare in Europe limiting free carry-on bags
- On Thursday, Lufthansa Group announced a new 'Economy Basic' fare for European flights, restricting passengers to a single small personal item. Items larger than a "laptop bag or a small backpack" will cost extra.

- By the end of 2026, the company expects to offer the fare on all European flights across its brands, including Austrian Airlines and SWISS. This expansion will likely keep the debate over hand luggage rules active industry-wide.
