Lucy Letby’s lawyer says killer nurse has ‘new hope’
Lucy Letby's lawyer submits extensive new evidence to the Criminal Cases Review Commission seeking to overturn her convictions amid ongoing hospital negligence investigations.
- On Sunday, Mark McDonald said Letby now has `new hope` after her parents contacted him almost a year ago and he is submitting `new evidence` to the Criminal Cases Review Commission.
- Letby lost every retrial and appeal bid, serving 15 whole-life orders after murdering seven infants and attempting to kill seven others between June 2015 and June 2016.
- McDonald said he has spent thousands of hours on Letby’s case, shared medical notes with experts, and visits her monthly at Bronzefield prison in Ashford, Surrey.
- Cheshire Constabulary said three senior Countess of Chester Hospital staff were arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter and are bailed pending inquiries.
- Following these developments, the Crown Prosecution Service is now reviewing possible offences against Letby, and McDonald said he has never submitted this much evidence to the Criminal Cases Review Commission, questioning its purpose if it does not refer his case back to the Court of Appeal.
