Lucy Letby: Inquests to open into deaths of five babies murdered by former nurse
Inquests into five infant deaths linked to Letby at Countess of Chester Hospital begin amid ongoing investigations and legal reviews, with hearings paused until September.
- On February 4, Senior Coroner Jacqueline Devonish opened and adjourned inquests into five infants known as Baby C, E, I, O and P at Cheshire Coroner's Court.
- Cheshire Constabulary passed evidence last year linked to alleged offences at the Countess of Chester Hospital, underpinning convictions of the former neonatal nurse.
- Doctors ventilated and attempted resuscitation; Baby E developed necrotising enterocolitis, suffered cardiac arrest, was resuscitated, but resuscitation was stopped with family consent, while details of Baby C and Baby I’s deaths were read out.
- The Crown Prosecution Service announced last month that it would not bring further charges, and full inquests are scheduled for September 14 to 25 this year, dependent on the Thirlwall Inquiry.
- On February 4, Netflix, distributor of The Investigation of Lucy Letby, began streaming the documentary, while Dr Shoo Lee and an international panel have disputed the prosecution's medical interpretation and Lady Justice Thirwall’s public inquiry report is due after Easter.
