Man wins 2 separate $1M lottery prizes after accidentally buying extra ticket
MASSACHUSETTS, UNITED STATES, JUL 21 – Paul Corcoran accidentally bought two tickets for the same Powerball drawing, winning two separate $1 million prizes before taxes, officials said.
- On July 9, Paul Corcoran, Fitchburg resident, bought two tickets for the Powerball drawing, landing a $2 million windfall, the Massachusetts Lottery said Tuesday.
- Earlier this year, Paul Corcoran bought a multi-draw ticket and, mistakenly believing it had expired, purchased another for the July 9 drawing, as Corcoran said.
- Both tickets matched the five white balls but not the red Powerball, and one was bought in Fitchburg while the other came from Leominster.
- On July 11, Corcoran claimed his prize at the Massachusetts State Lottery’s headquarters and told officials he felt `good` but had no spending plans.
- Powerball said eight Match 5 tickets won $1 million in the July 9 drawing, and as of July 17 the jackpot was $288 million cash value $130.6 million.
