LSU Football Announces Return of Tulane, Southern, Other Louisiana Schools to Tiger Stadium
LSU is adding four in-state matchups, including Tulane’s first return to Death Valley since 2009, as it rebuilds regional rivalries.
On Friday, LSU athletics announced four in-state, non-conference opponents over the next four years: Tulane, Southern, Northwestern State, and Louisiana-Monroe, all scheduled for Tiger Stadium.
Head coach Lane Kiffin prioritizes non-Power Four opponents for early season games, arguing difficult openers create "a mental toll that you gotta play when you have to get up for ."
The Green Wave will return to Tiger Stadium on August 31, 2030, for their first meeting with the Tigers since 2009. LSU holds a 69-22-7 all-time record against Tulane with 18 consecutive wins since 1982.
Northwestern State visits on August 28, 2027, followed by Louisiana-Monroe on August 26, 2028. Southern arrives September 9, 2028, marking the second Baton Rouge school matchup.
Local connections highlight the series: Southern tight ends coach Ben Miles is the son of former LSU coach Les Miles, while running back Trey Holly and defensive tackle De'Myrion Johnson transferred between the programs.
