Seimas lawyers who submitted a conclusion on the draft prepared by the Lithuanian Radio and Television (LRT) working group say that the proposed new grounds for dismissing the head of the public broadcaster are controversial, and the ban on representatives of other media outlets from creating content for LRT may be unrelated to the broadcaster's mission.
Sixty Lithuanian journalists from various media outlets and two organizations representing journalists on Tuesday appealed to members of the Seimas, the Prime Minister, and the Minister of Culture regarding amendments to the LRT law. Politicians are urged not to vote for changes that they say pose a threat to the independence of the public broadcaster.
