LPGA's Chevron Championship Moving to Houston Muni
The Chevron Championship moves closer to Chevron’s Houston headquarters to boost attendance and leverage tournament-ready infrastructure from the PGA Tour’s Houston Open.
- On Wednesday the LPGA and Chevron announced the Chevron Championship will be played at Memorial Park Golf Course, Houston, April 23-26.
- Organizers said the move was intended to bring the tournament closer to Chevron's headquarters and downtown Houston to connect more fans and showcase the city.
- After a $34 million renovation led by Tom Doak, the Astros Golf Foundation financed Memorial Park Golf Course's upgrades, enabling it to host major events again.
- With no pond around the 18th green at Memorial Park, the Poppie's Pond winner-jump tradition could end, as last year Mao Saigo, defending champion, struggled exiting the pond.
- The decision, first reported by Golfweek, is the latest move by Craig Kessler, LPGA commissioner for less than 200 days, coming just four weeks after Memorial Park hosts the Houston Open.
