Lower Saxony - SPD Elects Lies as Chairman

As expected, the SPD Lower Saxony elected Prime Minister Lies as its new chairman.

The Lower Saxony Social Democrats have chosen Olaf Lies as the new chairman. He follows the long-standing SPD head Stephan Weil.

This week Olaf Lies became Prime Minister first, and now the SPD delegates also elected him as Lower Saxony's party leader. Stephan Weil's farewell is thus complete.

At the beginning of April, the former head of government of Lower Saxony, Stephan Weil, announced his withdrawal. A few days ago, the Lower Saxony state parliament elected Olaf Lies as its successor.

At the state party congress in Wolfenbüttel, the party also decides on a motion on the AfD banning process.

The SPD Lower Saxony elected Olaf Lies as the new head of state. At today's state party congress in Wolfenbüttel, Lies received 96.4 percent of the delegates' votes.
