Louisville Mother Detained by ICE During Final Scheduled Green Card Interview
Armelle Bondonga was taken into ICE custody after a scheduled USCIS interview as her husband’s Green Card petition remained pending, her lawyer said.
On Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2026, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained 21-year-old Armelle Bondonga during her final green card interview in Louisville, Kentucky, separating her from her U.S. citizen husband, Terrance Bradshaw, and their 19-month-old son.
Bondonga arrived from the Democratic Republic of Congo at age eight, but attorney Arianit Osmani described her prior immigration history as "complicated" due to family asylum proceedings. ICE stated her visa expired in 2014, creating over a decade of unlawful presence.
Despite having no criminal history, Bondonga was arrested in front of her family. Former teacher Ryan Davis said she "wants to give back to this community and to love this community," describing her volunteer work with local youth organizations.
Bondonga remains detained at the Michael L. Becher Adult Correctional Complex in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Her legal team is filing a writ of habeas corpus petition to challenge her detention while her marriage-based green card application remains pending with USCIS.
State Rep. Nima Kulkarni noted the current administration is fast-tracking deportation processes, often before cases reach immigration judges. Although Bondonga's husband filed an I-130 petition, existing removal orders create procedural obstacles for her path to lawful permanent residency.
