Lost chicken becomes temporary police recruit following road rescue
Officers corralled the bird after a short pursuit and temporarily placed it in the dispatch center until its owner is found.
On Sunday, Bethel Park police responded to Drake Road after receiving a report of a chicken blocking traffic and being "indecisive as to whether or not to cross the road."
Following a "hilarious series of events and a short foot pursuit," officers managed to corral the bird and transport it back to the station for questioning.
After a brief interrogation, the chicken claimed she was not blocking traffic but rather directing it; she is now "supervising" the department's dispatch center.
Police identified the bird as a Plymouth Rock variety chicken and are asking owners to call 412-833-2000, stating, "She will be the one answering the phone."
Bethel Park, located around 10 miles outside Pittsburgh, will keep the bird until she is returned to her original home.
