- On Dec. 19, 2025, Pope Leo XIV appointed Monsignor Peter Dai Bui as auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Phoenix, the church announced Friday morning.
- To support a rapidly growing Catholic community in the Valley, diocesan leaders cited the Phoenix area’s population of more than two million and increasing pastoral needs.
- A longtime Valley priest, Monsignor Peter Dai Bui has served parishes in Queen Creek, Tempe and Mesa for over 18 years and worked at the Vatican from 2011 to 2016.
- Bui will assist Bishop John Dolan, Bishop of the Diocese of Phoenix, while continuing as vicar for the clergy and was assigned the titular see of Ausafa through the papal appointment process.
- He becomes only the second auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of Phoenix's 56-year history, joining Bishop Eduardo Nevares, while Pope Leo XIV accepted Bishop Gerald M. Barbarito's resignation the same day.
