Longtime Grand Ole Opry announcer Bill Cody in critical condition, family says
His daughter said he needs a heart-and-kidney transplant after weeks of tests, dialysis and medications, and doctors placed him on ECMO life support.
Longtime Grand Ole Opry announcer Bill Cody is in critical condition after being placed on an ECMO life-support machine, requiring a double heart-kidney transplant to survive, his daughter Hannah Davis said.
Cody was admitted to the ICU about three weeks ago with heart and kidney failure, but his condition deteriorated over the weekend, forcing doctors to intubate him for emergency ECMO support.
A Country Radio Hall-of-Famer, Cody has spent nearly 50 years on the airwaves and more than 30 years hosting WSM Radio's flagship morning show, Coffee, Country & Cody.
Cody passed necessary tests to qualify for the transplant list, but Hannah is asking for prayers, writing, "We need a miracle and we know God is able," hoping the next 48 hours on ECMO allow rest.
The transplant team that meets on Tuesdays will evaluate Cody to determine if he can be listed for the procedure, while his family continues seeking prayers for recovery.
