Longboat Key Roofing Completes Ownership Transition Under James Peel
The company’s succession plan gives production leaders an ownership path as James Peel takes over and Lucas Lewis gains a stake.
On June 30, Longboat Key Roofing formalized an ownership transition, naming James Peel, President and CEO, while granting production leader Lucas Lewis an ownership stake.
Peel contemplated the transition since 2019 or 2020, seeking a partner who intrinsically understands production operations as deeply as he manages the human and estimating sides of the business.
Lewis, the company's license holder, leads field operations requiring daily involvement with job sites, crews, and inspections; Longboat Key Roofing also develops supervisor Ivan, learning production from the ground up.
Peel prioritizes internal succession over industry mergers to preserve established relationships and operating knowledge. "Ultimately they're building something for themselves," Peel said.
Future changes will depend on company development rather than predetermined timelines, with no additional ownership commitments announced. KPMG's 2025 Roofing Contracting Market Update reports ongoing private-equity interest in roofing acquisitions.
