Long-term test shows efficiency of perovskite cells varies with the season

Summary by TechXplore
Scientists at HZB ran a long-term experiment on the roof of a building at the Adlershof campus. They expose a wide variety of solar cells to the weather conditions, recording their performance over a period of years. These include perovskite solar cells, a new photovoltaic material offering high efficiency and low manufacturing costs.

A team of scientists from the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) has completed the longest study to date on the behaviour of solar perovskita cells in real outdoor conditions. For four years, researchers exposed various types of photovoltaic cells, including perovskita cells, to the natural weather conditions on the Adlershof campus, in order to assess their long-term performance. Perovskit cells have aroused great interest in the field of solar ene…

At the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, the long-term behaviour of different photovoltaic technologies is recorded on an open-air measurement stand.Among other things, according to the scientists, the longest series of measurements of perovskite solar cells in outdoor use has been developed here. One of the findings is that the cells lose significantly in efficiency in winter.Perovskite solar cells now also have fairly stable efficiencies over several y…
