London, Ont. police, OPP seize 31 crime guns of U.S. origin and 12.5 kg of fentanyl
Project Alias resulted in 214 charges against 11 individuals and removed enough fentanyl to potentially cause 125,000 lethal doses, police said.
- On Jan. 14, the Ontario Provincial Police and London Police Service executed search warrants in London and Toronto, seizing 31 crime guns and drugs valued at more than $2 million during Project Alias.
- London Police Service began probing in 2024 after rising firearm violence, targeting multiple criminal networks trafficking illegal firearms, high-capacity magazines, fentanyl and cocaine.
- Tracing work showed firearms came from Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, Texas, Ohio and Virginia, and police allege two people sourced guns from the United States; investigators seized 12.5 kg suspected fentanyl, 4.5 kg suspected cocaine, 25 prohibited devices and $64,000 in cash.
- Eleven people, all in their 20s, have been charged with 214 offences; nine were arrested, two remain wanted, and court dates are set for late January and February.
- The seizures highlight risks from U.S.-origin crime guns and independently operated criminal networks collaborating without ties to a single group, increasing investigation complexity and public-safety risk.
