Lloyds, Bank of Scotland and Halifax Apps Showed Customers Other Users' Transactions

A technical glitch briefly exposed other customers’ transactions and sensitive data on three major UK banking apps; hundreds reported issues, Lloyds Banking Group said.

  • On Thursday, March 12, a technical glitch allowed users of Lloyds Bank, Halifax and Bank of Scotland apps to see transactions that were not their own.
  • Lloyds Banking Group said it has launched an investigation and advised customers to log out and back in as it may be a technical glitch, assuring accounts remain safe.
  • A Bank of Scotland user said she viewed National Insurance numbers and six different accounts, including transactions from Newcastle, DWP benefits, and wages, over a 20-minute period.
  • DownDetector recorded complaint surges from about 7am with a sharper spike between 10am and 11am on Thursday, while Martin Lewis highlighted reports and regulators said they are making enquiries.
  • The group serves approximately 26 million customers and faced outages in January–February 2025, with about 700,000 affected, raising questions about app resilience.
