Lithuania’s State Defence Council – a body comprising top political and military leadership – has approved the deployment of up to 40 troops and civilian defence personnel to an international mission to ensure free passage in the Strait of Hormuz, the presidential office said Monday.
After the State Defense Council (SDC) approved Lithuania's joining international maritime security operations in the Strait of Hormuz, Asta Skaisgirytė, the President's Chief Advisor, says that Lithuania's specific contribution to this mission will still be coordinated. In addition, according to A. Skaisgirytė, the SDC's decision to join the mission is based on the security needs of allies, and not on the desire to please anyone.
