Lithuania to seek US help in Epstein-linked trafficking probe
About 20 people have been interviewed as prosecutors prepare a request for U.S. legal assistance in the case.
- On Thursday, Lithuania's Prosecutor General Nida Grunskien announced the country will request legal assistance from the United States in a human trafficking investigation linked to leaked correspondence from the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
- The Prosecutor General's Office launched this pretrial investigation in February after assessing files released by the US Justice Department, which contained over 1,200 mentions of Lithuania and more than 1,000 references to Vilnius.
- Leaked documents reveal a 2017 request to transfer EUR 75,000 to UAB Fors Projektai and payments to organizations led by Valdas Petreikis, whose wife, Simona Petreik, was named a beneficiary of a USD 3 million inheritance.
- "The investigation is intensively underway," Grunskien told Radijas on Thursday, noting that authorities have interviewed approximately 20 individuals while collecting evidence for the legal aid request.
- Grunskien urged anyone with relevant information or who has been harmed to contact investigators directly by calling +37060468154, emphasizing that such testimony would assist in the ongoing examination of trafficking allegations.
