Petitioners against the jacaranda harvest in Lisbon welcome “apparent openness” of the Chamber

The CML confirmed the request for a new evaluation of the project on Av. 5 de Outubro, but the petitioners warned that there is still no guarantee that all trees will be spared from any intervention.

Of the three jacaranda trees that will be transplanted, two will go to Praça Andrade Caminha and one to Rua Marquês da Fronteira.

“We continue to await confirmation from the CML [Lisbon City Council], after its announcement of April 3, [about] whether it will retreat from transplanting and felling 42 trees”, stress the petitioners, in a statement sent on Thursday evening, after the city executive announced the temporary retreat in the transplantation of 17 jacaranda trees and the revaluation of the 25 scheduled culls

The initial plan called for the removal of 47 trees on the axis of Avenida 5 de Outubro, in Lisbon, where there are 75 jacaranda trees, defining that 30 would be kept, 20 transplanted (plus two plantains) and the remaining 25 felled.
