Lions starting S Brian Branch, Kerby Joseph to start camp on PUP list
Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch were among three players placed on the physically unable to perform list, leaving Detroit short at safety.
- On Sunday, the Detroit Lions placed starting safeties Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph, along with tight end Tyler Conklin, on the Physically Unable to Perform list ahead of training camp.
- Branch is currently recovering from a torn Achilles sustained last December, while Joseph continues to rehabilitate a chronic knee injury that sidelined him for 11 games last season. Conklin is managing an undisclosed injury from spring workouts.
- Players on the active Physically Unable to Perform list cannot participate in practice but may be activated at any time during camp. If they remain on the list after final roster cutdowns in late August, they must miss at least the first four games.
- Veterans are set to arrive on Tuesday, and the team will conduct its first practice on Wednesday. Head coach Dan Campbell is expected to provide further updates on the injured players during his media session that day.
- With the starters sidelined, the Lions could evaluate Chuck Clark and Christian Izien to fill safety vacancies. For the third tight end spot, the team may look at Jackson Meeks, Zach Horton, or Miles Kitselman behind Sam LaPorta and Brock Wright.
