A Japanese court on Wednesday sentenced Tetsuya Yamagami to life imprisonment for shooting and killing former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during a campaign rally in Nara in July 2022. The Nara District Court granted the prosecution's request that Yamagami spend the rest of his life in prison for what it described as an "unprecedented crime in the country's postwar history," according to the Kyodo news agency.
