Unknown individuals have gained access to customer data at supermarket chain Lidl. The German company reported this to affected customers via email. The supermarket chain declined to say how many customers have been affected. However, the discounter did state that it has notified the Data Protection Authority.
The Lidl retail chain informed its customers on Friday about a security incident in which attackers gained access to some of the personal data of users of its online store. The attack was said to have taken place at an external IT service provider, and the e-shop system was not compromised. Lidl ruled out that the hackers gained access to payment data.
Unknown people were able to access a file with customer data and stole personal customer data. Lidl reacted and contacted affected customers.
Some Lidl online store customers received notification of an incident involving personal data. As Niebezpiecznik reports, the company reported that a fragment of a file containing user information was compromised, but passwords and payment details were not compromised.
