If the minimum wage increases, the number of so-called "supplements" is also decreasing – for the state, the increase can be very worthwhile in several respects, according to the Institute for Labour Market and Occupational Research.
Many people receiving supplementary benefits will lose part or all of their income if the minimum wage is increased. This saves the state several hundred million euros. But that's not all.
Enzo Weber from the Institute for Labour Market and Vocational Research (IAB) at the Federal Employment Agency expects that the upcoming minimum wage increases will relieve the state treasury.
