Columbia Global Freedom of Expression seeks to contribute to the development of an integrated and progressive jurisprudence and understanding on freedom of expression and information around the world.  It maintains an extensive database of international case law. The statement was prompted by references from GEN, UCR, PRO, PJ, Federal Encuentro, the Civic Coalition and United Republicans. Neither libertarian spaces nor left-wing parties joined. The entry The opposition signed a statement in defense of press freedom: "Silence against authoritarianism is a form of complicity" was first published in #BorderPeriodism.

On Homeland Day, more than twenty political leaders signed a document denouncing an escalation of attacks on journalists and media from the government. “Silence in the face of authoritarianism is complicity,” they warned.

The call demands an active commitment against harassment of the press and warns about the use of the State to discipline independent journalism.
