Legendary Coach Axed by Sydney Sixers, Cricket NSW
Greg Shipperd ends 11 seasons coaching Sydney Sixers and NSW Blues despite recent success; Cricket NSW will begin a search for new leadership.
- Yesterday, Cricket NSW announced it was parting ways with Greg Shipperd, who will leave the Sixers job immediately, despite his successful record.
- With a two-year deal through the end of the 2026-27 season, he was re-signed in November 2025 after guiding the Sixers to the BBL final last week and leaving NSW within reach of finals with four and three rounds remaining.
- Across 145 matches, Shipperd led the Sixers to two BBL titles and nine finals, coaching for eleven seasons and previously guiding Tasmania, Victoria, and Melbourne Stars.
- Cricket NSW will search for a new coach, with Germon saying, `I believe that Greg and his coaching team have done a really good job of stabilising our side after a couple of difficult seasons and bringing in some good systems and processes, and now, in my view, was a time for us to go up another level and consistently win matches and look to win titles`, Germon said.
- Reacting to the decision, Shipperd said he was 'incredibly disappointed' but proud of developing the next generation of young NSW players.
