Israeli strike kills seven in south Lebanon, state news reports

The strike hit a home on the edge of Ansar village and left three others wounded, officials said.

  • On Saturday, an Israeli airstrike hit a home on the edge of Ansar, Lebanon, killing seven people and wounding three, according to Lebanon's National News Agency. Israel's army did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
  • The strike marks one of the deadliest incidents since a June 20 truce and a 'framework agreement' announced June 26 between Israel and Lebanon. Iran-backed Hezbollah refused direct talks and was not part of the agreement, complicating implementation.
  • Separately, on Friday, two vessels were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz. A tanker owned by Abu Dhabi's ADNOC was struck, and a bulk carrier was hit by an unknown projectile with no reported injuries.
  • The UAE has previously accused Iran of similar incidents, though officials did not immediately comment on Friday's attacks. This marks the third assault on ADNOC-operated vessels in the critical waterway in the last week.
  • Shipping has been virtually closed in the Strait of Hormuz since the Iran war began on Feb 28, disrupting a critical Persian Gulf waterway that previously carried one-fifth of the world's traded oil and natural gas.
