Iranian Lawmaker Threatens “Decisive and Painful” Response After Israeli Strike in Beirut
Israeli officials said the airstrike hit Hezbollah infrastructure after rocket fire, and the military had warned Beirut if Israeli communities were targeted.
On Thursday, the IDF struck Hezbollah infrastructure in the Dahieh district of Beirut, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz stating the operation targeted terrorist headquarters in response to rocket fire toward Israeli territory.
Senior IDF officials recently demanded action in the Hezbollah stronghold after weeks of restraint; Gen. Eyal Zamir approved the strike plans while in the Gaza Strip to apply pressure on the organization.
Initial details indicate two aircraft dropped 10 munitions on a headquarters building; Lebanese media reported "many casualties" in the strikes, while Israel notified Washington beforehand of the operation.
Iranian Foreign Policy Committee spokesperson Ebrahim Rezaei wrote on X, "We will give a decisive and painful response to the Zionist regime," while President Donald Trump told NBC News he would not lift sanctions before a peace deal.
Rockets were fired into Israel for the first time in four days, with sirens sounding in Metula and Misgav Am, followed by launches in Ramot Naftali and Yiftah that the IDF intercepted.
