The continued escalation of hostilities in Lebanon and the devastating consequences it is having for children are of grave concern, said Edouard Beigbeder, UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa. In the past seven days, 83 children have been killed in fighting in Lebanon between Israel and the Shiite movement Hezbollah.
When the conflict enters its second week, the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health has announced that the number of deaths due to the Israeli aggression, from the early hours of Monday, March 2, to the afternoon of Saturday, March 7, amounted to 394, with 1,130 wounded. Lebanese Minister of Public Health Rakan Nasreddine reported this Sunday that 394 people have been killed by the intense Israeli air offensive in the country. 83 of them would be children. In addition, the Lebanese authorities have counted 1,130 wounded during the attacks, 254 minors. The targets, said Nasreddine, "are not combatants or military installations."
