A bill to relaunch the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons in the Overseas Territories was debated this Thursday in the Senate. The text, adopted in committee on 21 January, divided civil society and elected representatives.
Senators want to lift the ban on oil exploration and exploitation for overseas countries and territories. There is a strong expectation that this will happen in Guyana. A bill is being considered in public on Thursday, January 29, 2026, by a macronist elected by Georges Patient.
