Latest death notice published for teen killed in M9 crash
The funeral notice was published on RIP.ie as a fundraiser for the injured family reached almost €600,000, officials said.
Funeral arrangements for Jeremy O'Brien, 18, were confirmed on Thursday, with his funeral mass scheduled for Monday in Askea, Carlow, following the August 16 M9 motorway crash that killed five teenagers.
On August 16, five teenagers died after driving a car—believed to be stolen—the wrong way on the M9, colliding head-on with a Hyundai carrying a family traveling to Dublin Airport.
The victims, aged 15 to 18, included O'Brien, Alex McCarthy, Joey Carthy, Jack Kennedy, and Kamil Pustkowski. Three women and a seven-year-old boy from the struck vehicle remain hospitalized; a fundraiser raised nearly €600,000 by Thursday.
Tusla confirmed some teenagers involved were known to the agency, prompting a national review into its handling of the cases. Earlier this week, Joe Carthy's funeral notice was removed from RIP.ie following abusive online comments.
Enterprise Minister Peter Burke stated social media firms must remove content that "glorifies illegal activity," as TikTok declined an Oireachtas committee appearance regarding dangerous driving videos. Coimisiún na Meán remains in contact with Gardaí on the matter.
