Lane Johnson announces retirement after 14 seasons with Philadelphia Eagles
The 36-year-old right tackle played only three games this season after saying 2026 would likely be his final year, the Eagles said.
On Tuesday, Philadelphia Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson announced his retirement after 14 seasons, ending his entire career with the team at age 36.
Johnson cited shifting personal and family priorities, writing that "right now, it is critical that I focus on my mental health" after an injury-filled 2025 season.
Throughout 171 regular-season games, Johnson earned six Pro Bowl selections and three All-Pro second-team nods while anchoring two Super Bowl championship offenses and banking $186.4 million.
Rookie Markel Bell, a 2026 third-round pick from Miami, will start at right tackle Friday when Philadelphia faces Jacksonville Jaguars in London.
CEO Jeffrey Lurie praised Johnson's "courage" in mental health advocacy and predicted his eventual induction into the Pro Football Hall, calling him "one of the best players ever" at his position.
