The new 110,000-square-foot galleries display more than 1,700 works and capped a record $11.5 million opening dinner, organizers said.

- Architect Peter Zumthor's controversial $724 million concrete Geffen Galleries project culminated a 20-year vision, overcoming enormous pushback to finally complete the structure.
- Artist Todd Gray praised the "magic hour," noting how sunlight diffused through textile designer Reiko Sudo's curtains illuminated his 27-foot-long sculpture "Octavia's Gaze." Koons called the building "amazing" for future generations.
- Board co-chair Tony Ressler called the project "a great, great example of what can be achieved when government and philanthropy work hand in hand," while Govan expressed hopes the building lasts 500 years.
- Reflecting on the museum's transformation, Tiffany August, associate vice president of LACMA, said, "I've been here nearly 20 years and seeing this going from concept to reality has been the greatest thing.
