La Luz III: Good Grief! It is hard to convict a woman - Alamogordo Daily News

There are many legends relating to how the village of La Luz (The Light) got its name. One tale is that lamps were lit every evening by the people of Presidio (what La Luz was first named) to signal the residents of Tularosa, seven miles away, that the Presidians were safe and had not been eaten by bears or mountain lions, or been carried away by mobs of mosquitoes.
