Kyiv Power Plant Hit by Russian Missile without Warning From Allies
At least 2 people were killed and 20 others wounded as the strike hit a key heating and electricity facility and an apartment block, officials said.
- On Tuesday, a Russian ballistic missile struck a power plant in Kyiv, killing two people and injuring around 20 others, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky and Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko. A residential building in the Desnianskyi district was also hit.
- President Donald Trump's surprise Sunday announcement on Truth Social claiming an "energy ceasefire" between Russia and Ukraine preceded the attack. Despite the claim, both nations continued long-range strikes on power plants and oil refineries.
- Zelensky reported receiving "no early warning from our partners" before the Darnytska CHP-4 infrastructure facility was hit. He added, "It is important that the world does not stay silent about this."
- Addressing speculation that the United States cut off intelligence access, Trump denied the claim on Tuesday. "We are helping them and we are sharing intel," he said, while demurring on whether Russia broke the ceasefire.
- Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov previously rejected the ceasefire, arguing it would allow Europe to "pump with new weapons." The CHP-4 facility, serving three million people, was also severely damaged in February.
