Kwankwaso congratulates Adeleke on Osun re-election

Kwankwaso said the result showed voters still shape Nigeria’s democracy and urged INEC and stakeholders to keep elections credible and peaceful.

  • On Sunday, the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke the winner of Saturday's governorship election. Adeleke secured 511,067 votes, defeating All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
  • Adeleke secured a second term after running on the Accord ticket, having left the Peoples Democratic Party following a prolonged internal crisis. This victory grants the governor another four years to lead the state outside his original party.
  • Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Senate President Bukola Saraki congratulated the governor, commending Osun residents for exercising their democratic rights. Both leaders noted the election demonstrated citizens' power to choose their leaders through the ballot.
  • Reported incidents of vote buying drew condemnation from the Inter-Party Advisory Council on Sunday. Osun IPAC Chairman Odesola Oluseye Titus urged stakeholders to address these practices, stating such actions undermine democratic integrity and fairness.
  • Nigeria Governors' Forum acknowledged the resilience of Nigerian democracy, while leaders highlighted lessons ahead of the 2027 general election. They urged political actors to prioritize people's interests and embrace peace, unity, and the rule of law.
