K'taka FDA Seizes Spurious Drugs Worth ₹4.91 Crore
On Tuesday, The Enforcement Wing of The Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration Department raided an unlicensed unit near Hejjala, Bidadi, uncovering an alleged racket involving the repackaging and relabelling of spurious medicines.
Health Minister Khader told The Hindu the value of the seized drugs is estimated at around ₹5 crore, noting the facility operated without a valid manufacturing licence.
Concerns over counterfeit medicines entering the pharmaceutical supply chain prompted further investigation by the FSDA to identify the source of these drugs and prevent potential risks.
Intensified inspections across food and drug establishments, including Pharmacies, reflect the FSDA's broader enforcement strategy to strengthen surveillance across the pharmaceutical supply chain.
To improve compliance, the State now requires Pharmacies and restaurants to display QR codes for consumer reporting of safety violations, complementing ongoing inspections from roadside eateries to government-run Indira Canteens.
