Kroger cheese garlic croutons recalled over salmonella fears
No illnesses have been reported, and the recall covers only 5-ounce bags with specific best-by dates, the Food and Drug Administration said.
On Monday, Sugar Foods LLC recalled certain Kroger-branded Homestyle Cheese Garlic Croutons sold in 5-ounce pouches across 17 states due to potential Salmonella contamination linked to milk powder.
California Dairies Inc. supplied the milk powder used in the croutons' seasoning blend, prompting Sugar Foods to initiate a precautionary recall despite seasoning batches testing negative for Salmonella.
Consumers should check 5-ounce pouches for UPC code 0 11110 81353 4 and 'Best If Used By' dates ranging from February 17, 2027, through April 7, 2027; shoppers are urged not to eat the product.
According to the Food and Drug Administration, no illnesses have been reported to date, and customers with questions can contact Sugar Foods 24 hours a day at 332-240-6676.
This recall is part of a wider contamination issue involving California Dairies Inc. milk powder, which has prompted recalls of other products sold at Aldi and Ghirardelli Chocolate Company.
