Iranian Drones Hit Kurdistan PM's Office in Erbil, KRG Says

The Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism Service said two explosive-laden Hadid-110 drones caused no casualties and targeted senior Kurdish officials' offices.

  • On Monday, two Iranian-made drones targeted the office of Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and the residence of the Security and Intelligence Agency head, according to the Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism Service.
  • Tehran and Iran-backed groups frequently accuse the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region of harboring Iranian Kurdish opposition groups, a claim that Iraqi Kurdish authorities deny.
  • A Shafaq News tally reported 16 drones and three missiles targeted the Kurdistan Region from Aug. 1 to 14, with eight drones and all three missiles striking Erbil.
  • Condemning the strikes as a "dangerous escalation" and a "direct threat to the security and stability" of the region, Barzani asserted the government would not be deterred from protecting citizens.
  • The region faces persistent volatility; a four-day wave of drone strikes on its oilfields in July 2025 halted nearly half of crude production, with security officials pointing to Iran-backed militias as perpetrators.
