King’s Birthday Honours: the full list
Only 37% of recent nominations were for women, and officials say 13 extra staff will help clear a 6,000-case backlog by June 30, 2027.
Australia's King's Birthday Honours awarded over 67 per cent of recipients to men this year, reflecting a persistent gender imbalance in the Order of Australia despite years of advocacy.
Nominations consistently skew about 60/40 in favour of men, with only 37 per cent of nominations between December 1, 2025, and April 30, 2026, submitted for women.
The Governor-General's Office added 13 staff members to address a backlog of over 6,000 nominations, with Director Rob Ayling expecting to clear the backlog by June 30, 2027.
Elizabeth Hartnell-Young, co-founder of Honour A Woman, welcomed the extra funding but emphasized the need for "pro bono committees in each state and territory to identify those who should be honoured."
Governor-General Sam Mostyn advocates for inclusivity, stating "every Australian regardless of their gender, social, cultural or economic background should be able to look at the honours list and see themselves.
