King County receives $1 million for rescue helicopter
The grant will add matching instrument panels and a new rescue hoist to improve communications and safety during rescues, officials said.
On Tuesday, Congresswoman Kim Schrier joined the King County Sheriff at King County International Airport to celebrate more than $1 million in federal funding secured to upgrade a rescue helicopter.
King County Sheriff Patti Cole-Tindall noted the unit has provided hoist rescues for 27 years, serving all but two Washington counties as one of three counties offering such capabilities.
The funds will allow the King County Sheriff to implement "key safety components vital to continuing this program," including a new rescue hoist and matching instrument panels for improved communication.
Approximately 25 rescues occur annually, and Cole-Tindall said the office is currently approaching its busy season, making the upgrades essential for ongoing emergency response.
Schrier secured $14 million in federal funding this year to improve safety across the Eighth District, stating, "I'm proud of my work in Congress to bring home federal dollars.
