GOP Party Chair Pushing 'False Narratives' About Mystery Ballots, Director of Elections Says

On Tuesday, the United States Postal Inspection Service took custody of about 400 unopened, unvoted ballots discovered near a Renton dumpster, collaborating with the Renton Police Department on the investigation.
State Rep. Jim Walsh, R-Aberdeen, posted video claims about the ballots after the Washington State Republican Party received them on April 16 at its Bellevue headquarters, following a Good Samaritan's February discovery.
According to Walsh, most ballots appear connected to a private mailbox rental business where individuals lease mailing addresses; the current owner said they took over in January unaware of any ballots left behind.
King County Elections Director Julie Wise disputed the narrative, calling it "clearly an effort to push a false narrative about elections and vote-by-mail," and said authorities should have received the ballots immediately.
Under state law, no ballot is opened and counted without verifying the voter's signature against registration records; King County Elections and the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office will support law enforcement investigating the ballots.
