King Attends Service for Order of St Michael and St George
The service honored overseas and foreign-affairs work, with the Order of St Michael and St George meeting every four years, officials said.
On Thursday, King Charles attended his first Service of Dedication and Commemoration as monarch at St Paul's Cathedral, where he was greeted by the Right Honourable Lady Mayor of the City of London, Dame Susan Langley.
Founded in 1818 by the Prince Regent, later King George IV, the Order of St Michael and St George features Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, as its current Grand Master.
The Order currently consists of 125 Knights and Dames Grand Cross, 375 Knights and Dames Commander, and 1750 Companions, with honours granted annually by the King on the Prime Minister's advice.
Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, made a rare public appearance at the ceremony; at age 90, the Duke is the oldest member of the British royal family and a first cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth.
The Service of Dedication and Commemoration typically occurs every four years at St Paul's Cathedral, and the Duke continues his annual engagements following the death of his wife, Katharine, Duchess of Kent, last September.
