Killer locked up for life over murder of wife in fire
Roland James Griffiths was sentenced to life with a 32-year non-parole period for murdering his partner and severely injuring her stepdaughter in a 2022 house fire.
- On Thursday morning at Melbourne's Supreme Court, Roland James Griffiths, 41, was sentenced to life with a 32-year non-parole period and parole eligibility by 2054.
- A heavily intoxicated Griffiths poured petrol on his partner in front of seven children and had an extensive family violence and substance abuse history, the court heard.
- Griffiths poured petrol across Kylie Sheahan's body, dousing her neck and back before flames spread to the 16-year-old stepdaughter and himself as older siblings rescued infant children.
- The family faced immediate upheaval as the children were split, the eldest moving to Adelaide, three child rescuers will receive bravery awards, and Justice John Champion condemned the offence as 'brutal' and 'protracted'.
- The legal timeline shows that in February 2025, Griffiths indicated a guilty plea, received a concurrent 10-year sentence, has spent more than 1300 days in custody, and showed no genuine remorse.
