After Nearly Two Years of Violence, Manipur CM Finally Visits Jiribam via Kuki-Dominated NH-37 Corridor
Singh inspected a 50-bed hospital and will attend development ceremonies as part of an outreach visit after months of unrest.
- On Saturday, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh traveled about 217 km via NH-37 to Jiribam district, beginning a three-day visit with eight MLAs and state BJP president A Sharda Devi to reinforce peace and trust-building initiatives.
- This journey marks Singh's first road visit to the region since ethnic violence erupted in May 2023, following a June 2024 attempt canceled after suspected militants ambushed a security convoy near Kotlen in Kangpokpi district.
- During an inspection of the 50-bedded hospital at Ningsingkhul, Singh promised a comprehensive transfer policy for medical personnel to ensure optimal staffing at Jiri district hospital while reviewing infrastructure gaps.
- Addressing residents at a "Community Interaction Programme" in New Alipur Rongmei Naga village, Singh engaged with internally displaced persons from Meitei, Kuki, Paite, and Hmar communities, listening to their grievances and concerns.
- Today, Sunday, Singh is scheduled to attend the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Inter-State Truck Terminal and other development projects in Chandrapur, continuing infrastructure strengthening efforts.
