The large European transport network projects are very late and are at risk of achieving the 2030 targets, in terms of EUR billion allocated to EU funds, warn European auditors.The delays affect the connectivity, trade and reduction of transport emissions, a report from the European Court of Auditors.
The European Court of Auditors decomposes Europe's large-scale transport projects: the goal of completing the EU's core network by 2030 was "not to be achieved". The intended improvements for European and German passenger and freight transport were therefore further delayed.
The European high-speed network is expected to be completed by 2030 - at least the plan. The European Court of Auditors now says that this is not possible. Seven out of eight projects are behind schedule, many cost more than estimated.

The EU Court of Auditors does not give a good record of mega-projects of the trans-European transport network (TEN): completion targets have been far missing, costs have exploded. The Brenner Base Tunnel is still one of the "armless" ones. Five years ago, the EU auditors assumed that the completion of the Trans-European Core Transport Network (TEN-T) by 2030 "is unlikely to be reached". Now they clearly state: "It cannot be achieved.
The European Court of Auditors points out the considerable delays and budgetary overruns of the EU's major transport projects.
