Indonesia’s Anak Krakatau eruption halts flights, schools, fishing
TANGERANG, Indonesia — An eruption of Indonesia’s Mount Anak Krakatau caused eight airports to suspend flight operations on Sunday, affecting hundreds of flights at Jakarta’s main airport, after some school activities and fishing were halted.
The House of Representatives believes that Kertajati Airport must be maintained as an international airport and part of the national strategic infrastructure.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya conveyed a number of adjustments to flight operations and the handling of passengers affected by the eruption of Anak Krakatau.
Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development (IPK) Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) revealed that 2,961 flights in the country were disrupted by GAK.
