Sam Kerr Leaves Chelsea with Record-Equalling Goal
Kerr’s 116th Chelsea goal sealed a 1-0 win and secured third place, as she left after 158 appearances and five Women’s Super League titles.
On Saturday, Matildas skipper Sam Kerr scored her 116th goal for Chelsea in her 158th and final match, equaling the all-time club record held by former strike partner Fran Kirby.
The 1-0 win over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge secured Chelsea third place, ensuring qualification for next season's Champions League qualifiers.
Fans and players gave Kerr a standing ovation as she left the pitch, while teammate Millie Bright, a 20-trophy veteran, received a guard of honour marking her own departure.
Addressing supporters with her one-year-old son Jagger, Kerr said, "It's just, honestly, the biggest honour to play for this club, and I have so many amazing memories which I'll carry with me forever."
Expected to announce her next move soon, the striker is reportedly continuing her career in the NWSL in the US, ending a stellar six-and-a-half year career with the London giants.
