LPG Crisis: Centre Allocates PDS Kerosene to States, UTs in 60-Day Emergency Measure to Ease LPG Pressure
The government will supply kerosene for 60 days via petrol pumps to support vulnerable families amid LPG supply issues caused by Middle East tensions.
- On Monday, the Central Government introduced a 60-day emergency measure to reintroduce PDS kerosene in 21 States and Union Territories previously declared kerosene-free, easing pressure on LPG cooking gas supplies.
- The move follows growing instability in West Asia and disruptions in global energy supply routes, which have constrained fuel availability and increased domestic reliance on LPG.
- Authorities designated two petrol pumps per district to distribute kerosene for up to 60 days, supporting cooking and basic lighting needs under this temporary arrangement.
- Amid tensions between Iran and the United States, two Indian-flagged vessels safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz, transporting nearly 94,000 tonnes of LPG to stabilize supply lines.
- The vessels TYR and ELM continue toward India, with TYR expected to arrive at Mumbai by tomorrow and ELM scheduled to dock at New Mangalore on April 1.
